History of American Bully

It was in the 1990s when the American Bully breed was established. The sole purpose of creating such a breed is to have an ultimate family pet.

It is a product of years of thorough breeding combining desired traits and features of the AKC American Staffordshire Terrier and UKC American Pit Bull Terrier.

Its origin is in the East and West Coast of America, such as Los Angeles and Virginia. However, it eventually spread in other parts of America, Europe, and Asia.

Temperament and Behavior

The American Bully has a gentle and sweet temperament, making it a perfect family pet. They are loving towards other people.

They may look scary because of their physical features, but they are good-natured, affectionate, obedient, and loyal. They love to please their masters.

Their outgoing and sociable behavior is derived from American Staffordshire Terrier, while their loyalty and stability are derived from American Pit Bull Terrier. Overall, American Bully has a pleasant temperament.

Health and Care

It is a must to ensure that American Bully receives proper health care and nutrition. As early as eight weeks, you need to subject your puppy to vaccination to ensure proper growth and development.

Ask your vet about vaccination timing and schedule. American Bullies are generally healthy but prone to some health conditions.

Common Health Problems

  • Skin allergies
  • Heart-related diseases
  • Atrophy
  • Cataracts
  • Hip and elbow dysplasia
  • Heat intolerance
  • Demodicosis

Grooming

American Bully does not require that much grooming because its coat is smooth and short. What you need to do is to give it a regular brush using a firm bristle brush. Like other dogs, it sheds but can be considered a mild shedder.

To make their coat gleam, you can use dry shampoo or towel dry using chamois. A once a week bath is good enough for American Bully.

Training

American Bullies are smart and people-pleaser. With early training and association, they can learn new tricks. They respond to positive reinforcement and reward-based training.

However, you have to keep in mind that American Bullies are very active dogs, so it is a must to keep them mentally and physically motivated.

It is best to have them in a home with a yard. If the house has no yard, it’s fine as long as the dog remains active indoors.
