History

The Kuchi Dogs were the primitive breeds in Afghanistan raised by the nomads to protect them on varied terrains as well as climatic conditions.

The nomads would take the dogs along with them to challenge predators like lions, wolves, bears and even thieves.

Temperament And Behavior

Kuchi dogs are highly vigilant, fierce and tough and ensure that they perform their duty even when they encounter dangerous situations. They are extremely territorial and never hesitate to defend their owners.

Such dogs have a keen sense of pride and independence in them but around their owners, they share a good rapport and can be friendly and affectionate.

They are strong, courageous and athletics and never made it to any of the Kennel Clubs because of these characteristics and not looks.

Health And Care

The Kuchi Dogs generally are considered to be very healthy breeds and generally do not display significant health issues. Occasional veteran tests to look for budding health issues are enough.

Regular exercise, leashed walks and free runs keep the dogs healthy and happy. The best option is to take them on long walks twice a day followed by a few activities.

Grooming

Kuchi Dogs are extremely independent in nature. They were developed to look for themselves and require minimum grooming efforts from the owners.

Some varieties may require brushing of hair once or twice a month but that is also very minimal.

Training

This breed of dog requires training in puppyhood to make them less intrusive towards other dogs and trainers. Dog behaviourists and constant cuddling can calm them down.

However when they grow up, they do not demand a lot of training and can prove to be really independent especially with their guarding duties.
